An Issue of Blood

There was a woman from Gadara who had an issue of blood for twelve long years. She had spent all of her money on Doctors but none could help her. She was incurably ill. Without hope and because of her condition, (Jewish law said she could not be in public) Depression and despair settled over her like a shroud. She was sick and alone- and helpless. Then she heard of this Jesus of Nazareth who had healed a man from the region of the Gadarenes. The man had been possessed of over a thousand demons and after he was clothed and in his right mind he went to the town of Gadara and told everyone in the city what Jesus had done for him.

She knew that man who had been living in the tombs, running naked and cutting himself with rocks. He had been tied him up many times so he would not hurt himself or anyone else, but he always escaped..Now he was perfectly normal! He had been telling everyone about this Jesus who healed him. He said that Jesus told him to return to his house and tell what great things God had done for him...She felt faith rise within her when she saw what Jesus had done in this man. Would He, would He heal me?

She could hear a crowd gathering in the street...shouts of, “Jesus, it’s Jesus” “He’s coming, He’s coming”pierced the silence of her room. Quickly, she grasped her covering and draping it around her head and shoulders she crept out the door and down the narrow lane. Trying to remain inconspicuous she pulled her covering farther over her eyes and at the same time strained to see the Master. The street was full of people now. Someone yelled, “There He is!” She turned and saw Jesus speaking to a man who had fallen at His feet. The man rose and Jesus began following him but the crowd pressed in closer. She lost sight of Him for a minute.

“Oh no” she thought “I must get to Him, I must get to Him. If I can touch His garment I know I shall be healed!” She became desperate now. She didn’t care who saw her. She just knew she had to touch Him. She pushed her way through the crowd. Whispering His name she reached out from behind Him and touched His prayer shawl. Instantly, she felt healing surge through her body..And Jesus said,”Who touched Me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press you and you say, “Who touched Me?” But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.”

Now when the woman saw that her healing wasn’t hidden from the Lord she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched him and how she was healed immediately. And Jesus said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer, your faith has made you well..Go in peace.”
