VII. THE MYSTERY of BABYLON THE GREAT AND HER DESTRUCTION
Rev. 17:1
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
Rev. 17:5
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
In scripture, the phrase the woman refers to either Israel, or the church. So who is this? He refers to her as the Great Whore. Verse 2 says that the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her. Fornication refers to sexual impurity, but in this case, it refers to doctrinal impurity. God wanted to use language here that expresses his utter disgust, and what he considers filthy.
Verse 4 says she is arrayed in purple and scarlet colour. In the Roman Catholic church, Cardinals wear scarlet red, and Bishops wear purple, and their temples and their garments and furnishings are decked with gold, and precious stones and pearls. In her hand is a GOLDEN CUP full of the abominations of her filthiness and fornication , which is her doctrine on the Eucharist, or communion. Trans-substantiation is a doctrine of the devil. In the mass, they believe that Jesus is crucified afresh each time, and that the bread and wine are miraculously changed into his actual body and blood, and that partaking of this ritual grants forgiveness of sins and imparts the life of Jesus Christ to the believer. Repentance and water baptism by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus are clearly scripturally stated to be "for the remission of sins" (Acts 2:38, 4:12, 8:12, 10:43,47-48, 19:3-5, Rom 6:3-6, Col 2:8-15). The scriptures also indicate that "communion" is a memorial act, John 6:53-58 is further clarified by John 6:63 "it is the spirit that giveth life (quickeneth) the flesh profiteth nothing" 1Cor 12:16-18, 11:23-29 talks of discerning the Lord's body. 1Cor 12:12-27 tells you that "his body" is NOT bread & wine, but the blood bought Spirit filled people that comprise his church.
There are many false doctrines perpetrated by this religious body. Too many to list here. But her description is plain.
Rev. 17:6
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. Anyone who opposed her was burned at the stake for "heresy". Sound like a christ-like spirit? How about the inquisition?
Rev. 17:9
And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
There is only one famous city in the world, known as "the city that sets on 7 hills" is none other than ROME.
Rev. 17:18
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
And here we are told that the whore is in fact "a city"., and not just any city, but one that reigns over kings of the earth. Who was the one who crowned kings? Who threatned kings with excommunication if they did not obey? You guessed it! The Roman Catholic popes and cardinals! Can God be any plainer?
